New Year, New Me… Yeahh Okayyyy

Why Consistency Matters More Than Motivation This Year

Every new year comes with the same familiar energy.

Hopeful. Motivated. Convinced that this is finally the year things stick. We set goals with good intentions and genuine belief. Not because we’re pretending, but because we really want change.

And for a moment, it feels real.

But a lot of people don’t struggle with wanting more for themselves. They struggle with staying committed once the excitement fades. Once it’s no longer new. Once real life starts asking for consistency instead of intention.

Research shows that about 50% of people set New Year’s resolutions. Within the first month, only about 25% are still committed. And by the end of the year, less than 10% actually follow through.

So the question isn’t whether you’ll set a goal.
It’s whether you’ll still be standing with it when the motivation wears off.

Whether that goal is losing weight, starting a business, eating healthier, picking up a new hobby, getting closer to God, or finally choosing yourself, the pattern is usually the same. We start strong, fueled by adrenaline and inspiration, and then slowly fall back into old rhythms when that initial push disappears.

And that doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.(っ˶ ˘ ᵕ˘)ˆᵕ ˆ˶ς)

What doesn’t get talked about enough is how discouraging it can feel to realize you don’t fully trust yourself yet. To say “this time is different” while secretly wondering if it really is. Not because you don’t care, but because you’ve seen how this story usually goes.

Well, now it’s time to write a new chapter — one that actually sticks.

It’s not about doing everything at once. It’s about showing up, day after day.

That’s where consistency matters more than motivation ever will.

Motivation is loud. Consistency is quiet. Motivation feels good. Consistency feels ordinary. And most real change happens in those ordinary moments when no one is watching and nothing feels exciting.

Many transformations fail because they are performative. Because it’s driven by outside validation. Because the goal slowly becomes about how it looks instead of who it’s for. And if the main thing keeping you going is praise, attention, or approval, it won’t last. People change. Opinions shift. Energy fades.

The only relationship that remains steady is the one you have with yourself.

Keeping your word to yourself builds self-trust. And self-trust changes everything. It affects how seriously you take your own goals, how confidently you make decisions, and how willing you are to show up when things get uncomfortable.

You don’t need a dramatic reset. You don’t need to become a completely different person overnight. In fact, those extreme shifts are often what lead to burnout. Real growth is slower. More honest. Built through small promises kept over time.

If you’re looking for practical ways to build consistency or make real changes, I’ve written more on that elsewhere. But this isn’t a how-to guide. This is a reminder that consistency is often the aspect that people overlook, even though it’s the most crucial part.

Because eventually, it comes down to a choice.

You can live with the regret of starting later than you wanted,
or the regret of never starting at all.

Only one of those still leaves room for change.

From one human to another,
Impera
